Stating the Obvious?

For two years now, the Transportation Safety Board has investigated the crash of a ferry off the coast of British Columbia. In their report, the TSB can only say the two crew members on board were engaged in a conversation of a personal nature during the 14 minutes between the time they should have changed course and when they crashed.

A brief look at some other facts:

• The two crew members had just ended a personal relationship.
• The crash occured at night.
• The navigation equipment displays were dimmed
• The audible alarms of the navigation system were muted.

I find it very hard to believe a conversation could be so distracting they can't see the ship heading toward an island.

I would bet a shiny penny the two crew members were fornicating (a.k.a. "having sex") at the time of the crash. They would not be able to see the obvious if they were rolling around on the floor. I know it sounds really crude, but it makes sense.
