Truth in Media?!?

With so much hype in the media regarding the 'crisis' in Ottawa, I was very pleased to read Dan Gardner's column today.  A whole lot of people in Ottawa need to take a Valium and reflect on the facts.

Here is a link to Dan's article.

Sandbox Politics

With the excitement in Ottawa reaching levels of near pandemonium, I can't help feel disappointed with the behaviour of ALL our federal political leaders.

Before Parliament had a chance to resume, opposition leaders announced plans to defeat our democratically elected government and form their own government based on an agreement between all of the opposition parties.

How on earth did we get to this point?  The Liberals claim they were motivated to act because the Throne Speech offered an inadequate plan to tackle the current economic turmoil.  Whatever.  A flimsy coalition government is not going to provide a solution for our economy.  The agreement between the leaders is not worth the paper it is written on.  Any political leader can back out at any time.

The more probable reason for this discord is the plan to remove government funding of political parties.  This was a wise political move on the part of the Prime Minister.  If implemented, it could very well mean the end of the Liberal Party, however, now is not the time for crass political manoeuvres.

All of the political leaders need to give their head a shake and do the reasonable thing by negotiating an agreement on the Throne Speech.  With the current economic uncertainty, Canadians are looking to their government to help them through this time.

The Prime Minister needs to be, now more than ever, a leader who can work to reach an agreement with the opposition parties.  If they are not willing to work with him, he should use measures to bring them to the table - even if it means a televised address.
