Adieu, M. Kingsley

My apologies to the one avid reader (myself included) of this blog for not posting in such a long time. I suppose so much of what goes on in Ottawa is completely irrelevant to my life, my interest level is dropping.

As my last post for 2006, I want to wish JP Kingsley all the best with his future endeavors. During his tenure as Chief Electoral Officer, he has always been partisan to the Liberals and with his resignation, he is offering them one last favor.

Knowing full well that my beloved Prime Minister is planning an election in the early New Year, he has now managed to make an election very difficult with him leaving office in mid-February. Yes, I realize I may be over analyzing the ol' tea leaves, but an election in the New Year would have been excellent for the Conservatives.

All of the posturing by the Conservative indicate that they will present an early budget filled with goodies that will double as the Conservative campaign platform, thereby forcing the Liberals et al to vote against the budget, causing an election. The PM will then be able to claim he tried his best to work with a minority Parliament, but they were just too unreasonable, etc...

Without having a Chief Electoral Officer in place, this plan would be very difficult to implement. I imagine the Conservatives will have a very busy January putting in place a new candidate to ensure a seamless transition.
