Nuclear Waste

Admittedly, I mispronounce 'nuclear' half the time, but it doesn't mean I can offer my opinion on the latest failed venture for AECL with the Maple project.

It is no wonder Canadians have a negative attitude toward the federal government when they hear of hundreds of millions of dollars gone to waste. Credit must be given to the Conservative government for publicly announcing the project a failure. The Maple project was DOA before they took power and they did the best they could given the circumstances. This is yet another remnant of a wasteful Liberal government.

The biggest detriment resulting from the Maple project will be to Canada's reputation in the area of nuclear energy around the world. Even though the Maple reactors were for medical isotopes and not energy, the fact that we could not - after 23 years and hundreds of million of dollars - manage to build a nuclear facility from scratch is an enormous mark on our reputation.

The sales pitch for CANDU reactors just got a little harder.
