Ablonczy and Gay Pride
Rumours are surfacing about Diane Ablonczy being demoted for sponsoring Toronto's Pride Festival. Naturally all of the social conservatives are up in arms over this "scandal". Those expressing shock and outrage have probably never met a gay person in their life.
It was a great decision for the federal government to sponsor the Pride Festival. My only disappointment was the Government of Canada's presence during the parade was nearly absent with participation only from the Department of National Defence (What!?!). Gay tourism is a massive industry and Toronto's Pride Festival is a major draw for the city.
At the risk of sounding like a pinko commie, I think the Conservative Party should be inclusive and representative of all Canadians of all sexual persuasians. I will be very disappointed if it turns out Ms. Ablonczy was demoted for sponsoring this event.

The full frontal public nudity and public simulated sex acts (which are both illegal in Canada) that are part of this so called 'family parade' should disqualify it from receiving any sort of government funding.
It makes sense that this decision to fund the parade most likely did not come from the government, but from an individual who perhaps thought that 'including' public nudity and sex acts in funding was worthy of Canadians hard earned tax dollars.
No offence but, you should be careful in suggesting that
"the Conservative Party should be inclusive and representative of all Canadians of all sexual persuasians." That is a very open inclusive suggestion that could include illegal sexual 'persuasions' including pedophiles, exhibitionists, and those that like cottaging in public wahsrooms and parks, to name a few illegal sexual persuasions.
I agree with Rural. The full frontal nudity and more flamboyant aspects of the parade disqualify it for public funding. Being in the music biz, I know gay people and most of them would be outraged how a parade represnting their lifestyle has be co-opted by the exhibitionist fringe.
Another thought: what would the response be if there was a Christian parade in Toronto or anywhere funded by the government?
I don't want public money supporting ANY parade. Thats not what tax dollars are for.
The Conservatives are shovelling the taxpayers money out he door without any controls.
